ART THERAPY FAQs

What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses creative expression to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Through the art-making process and reflection, it helps you gain insight and find new perspectives, especially when words alone aren’t enough.

What if I don’t want to do art therapy—can you provide talk therapy instead?

Yes! As a licensed Art Therapist, I’m trained in both traditional talk therapy and creative approaches. Each session is tailored to your comfort and needs; some may include art-making, while others may focus entirely on conversation. Even in talk-based sessions, we often explore thoughts and feelings through metaphor and analogy, which we see as another form of creativity that can lead to insight and understanding. Our goal is always to create a safe, supportive space that meets you where you are and helps you grow in the way that feels right for you.

Do I have to be good at art to engage in art therapy?

Not at all! Art Therapy isn’t about creating “good” art- it’s about expression and discovery. Think of it as mind mapping your emotions. Art-making helps visualize what’s happening internally and can offer clarity when words are hard to find.

What is the difference between Art Therapy and ADHD Mentoring?

The main difference lies in licensure and focus:

  • Art Therapy is a licensed clinical service (available in New Jersey and Pennsylvania) that focuses on emotional healing and self-understanding.

  • ADHD Mentoring is non-clinical and available globally. It focuses on education, structure, and executive functioning skills to help you navigate life with more confidence and balance.

Both approaches complement each other- Art Therapy explores the emotional and subconscious aspects of ADHD, while Mentoring provides practical tools and strategies for everyday living.

Who can benefit from ADHD Mentoring?

Anyone with ADHD or anyone who suspects they might have it can benefit from ADHD Mentoring! It’s especially helpful if you’re looking for more structure, practical tools, and compassionate guidance to manage responsibilities, routines, and feelings of overwhelm. You don’t need a formal diagnosis to begin. Mentoring isn’t limited to people with learning disabilities or executive functioning challenges. It’s for anyone who wants to build awareness, balance, and confidence in how they move through life.

Is ADHD Mentoring therapy?

No. ADHD Mentoring is non-clinical - it’s not therapy, but rather educational and skills-based support. While therapy explores emotional processing and past experiences, mentoring focuses on practical strategies and accountability to help you move forward.

Do you offer ADHD Mentoring online?

Yes! All ADHD Mentoring sessions are offered virtually, making them accessible from anywhere in the world. This flexibility allows you to receive consistent and personalized support, no matter where you live.

Why do you call yourself an ADHD Mentor instead of an ADHD Coach?

Because ADHD is a lifelong practice, not a pursuit of perfection. At My Creative’s Relief, our philosophy is that growth takes time- and that patience, compassion, and trust in the process are essential. Mentoring reflects this belief. While coaching often focuses on goals and performance, mentoring emphasizes ongoing guidance, understanding, and relationship. It’s about walking beside you as you learn, practice, and grow, honoring your unique rhythm and journey along the way.

INSURANCE & PAYMENT FAQs

Does My Creative Relief accept insurance?

My Creative Relief is an out-of-network provider. This means:

  • Art Therapy: Because it’s a licensed clinical service, your insurance may reimburse you for out-of-network sessions. Please contact your insurance company to verify coverage with a Licensed Professional Art Therapist.

  • ADHD Mentoring: As a non-clinical service, it is not covered by insurance. However, mentoring services may qualify as a tax-deductible expense as part of your mental health and wellness care.

Why are you not in-network with insurance companies?

We choose not to work in-network because we believe that healing, especially for neurodivergent individuals, requires time, creativity, and flexibility. These qualities don’t always fit neatly within the structure and limitations of insurance models.

Insurance often focuses on short-term goals and standardized treatment plans, but the work we do together is deeper, more reflective, and uniquely personal- We honor your individual pace, needs, and way of processing the world.

At My Creative Relief, we believe your growth deserves room to breathe!
